Club career


Robson-Kanu came through the ranks of the Reading Academy, suffering two long term injuries there. He was at non-League Acton Ealing Whistlers Youth F.C. and had trials with Arsenal but chose to join Reading. He had his first involvement with the first team when he travelled with the squad for the Peace Cup in South Korea in the summer of 2007, and started against River Plate.

Southend United and Swindon Town (loan)

He joined Southend United on loan on 30 January 2008, until the end of the 2007'08 season, where he scored three goals in eight games. He scored a goal in a 9'0 win over Didcot Town in the pre-season. He rejoined Southend on a month's loan on 21 August. He joined Swindon Town on loan on 26 January 2009.

Return to Reading

The week later, during the first game of Reading's pre-season tour of Sweden, Robson-Kanu scored a hat-trick against Jonsereds IF in just 28 minutes. He scored his first competitive goal for Reading in the League Cup defeat to Northampton Town. He got his first goal in The Football League in a 3'0 win against Barnsley. He scored the final goal after coming on as a substitute for Simon Church and setting up Jimmy Kebe's header and then running free to get the third. On 5 April, Robson-Kanu scored the winning goal against Preston North End. On 7 May, he added another goal to his tally on the final day of the season, the winner in a 2'1 win over Derby County. He scored a couple of superb goals in the 2011/12 season, one was a curler hit by the outside of his boot from 20 yards out and another was a cleanly struck volley that smashed into the back of the net.

International career

Having previously represented England at under-19 level, he made his debut for the Wales under-21 squad in a friendly match against Austria on 18 May 2010, qualifying through his Welsh grandmother. He made his debut for the senior Wales team on 23 May in a 2'0 defeat against Croatia at the Stadion Gradski. He scored an equaliser against Austria under-21's in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship for the Wales under-21 and in the next game he scored the only goal for Wales under-21 national team as they won 1'0 against Hungary under-21s.
