Report: The Wales Women's side lost 2-0 to Switzerland at Belle Vue, Rhyl, this afternoon (Sunday) in a UEFA Championship Group 4 game.

After an even first half that saw both sides put together some good football, Wales fell behind following a freak goal from a Swiss feee kick. Rahel Graf (SC Luwin) struck the free kick from just inside her own half and it sailed over the heads of attackers and defence alike, only to bounce a few feet in front of Welsh goalie Nicola Davies, and then bounce over her head into the net.

It was a severe set-back for caretaker manager Adrian Tucker and a Welsh side that had looked tidy in all areas of the field, though without causing too many problems in the Swiss penalty area.

The second half continued in a similar vein, and although Wales tried hard, the Swiss midfield continued to hold firm and did not allow for many attacking chances to be built. The Swiss sealed the game in the 82 minute with a fine individual goal fromMartina Mosser (SC Freiburg) who beat two Welsh defenders before cutting-in ad slotting the ball passed the advancing Davies.

Late in the game the Swiss had Ramona Bachmann (Umea IK) sent off for two yellow cards in as many minutes.

Wales now play Belgium in Dessel, near Antwerp on Wednesday, needing to gain their first points of the competition on the back of three straight defeats.
