Report: IC Wales write:

Netherlands Ladies secured a 1-0 victory over Wales at Newport Stadium last night with a 47th minute strike from Gabriella Melis.

Wales had the better of the chances in the first half and should have gone in ahead at the break.

Golden opportunities came and went for the Welsh team with both Cheryl Foster and Jayne Ludlow guilty of squandering good chances.

And it was the Dutch team who benefited from a brighter start to the second period when Melis slipped between the Welsh defence and fired home.

Wales had chances on goal in the 48 and 66 minute to pull level.

But like in the first period the quality of the finish was again their downfall.

And the powerful Dutch side ensured the Welsh girls rarely had a sniff of goal in the latter stages to leave the hosts ruing those missed chances.

It’s now seven losses for Wales and they remain rooted to the bottom of the Uefa Championship table.
