Licensing News - Brave Under 21's Bow-Out With Draw

Posted: 14 October 2008

Brian Flynn's youngsters drew 2-2 with England at Villa Park this evening (Tuesday) to exit the UEFA Under 21 Championships 5-4 over the two legs.

The Wales team was always up against it, going into the second leg 3-2 down after the first game at Ninian Park last Friday. With away goals counting double, the team knew they would have to score at least twice.

That they did, with a wonder goal from Aaron Ramsey, followed by another from Simon Church. However England had taken the lead through Tom Huddlestone and then a Sam Vokes own goal made it 2-2.

There were no further goals in the second half as Wales continued to press and England were reduced to ten men when Huddlestone was shown a harsh straight red card by Dutch official Kevin Blom.

The all-important third goal would not come to take the tie to extra time, and so Wales depart from the competition wondering what might have been.

All in all a great tournament for Wales and Brian Flynn's squad has done Wales proud.
