Licensing News - Five Clubs Successful in their Appeal
Posted: 16 May 2006
The Football Association of Wales Appeals Body met in Cardiff today and granted Club Licenses to four out of five Appellants. Haverfordwest County, Llanelli AFC, Rhyl FC and Welshpool Town were all successful in their Appeals, which means that a record nine Welsh Premier League clubs have now been Licensed for Season 2006/2007.
Significantly, Llanelli and Rhyl have now confirmed their places in European Club Competition for next season, as the Licence is a pre-requisite to compete in all UEFA Competitions. Rhyl will play in the UEFA Cup for a second successive season, as the Welsh Cup winners, and Llanelli also qualify as the League Runners-Up.
TNS, who will play in the Champions League and Carmarthen Town who will play in the Intertoto Cup by virtue of their fourth place in the League, were both Licensed at the First Instance Body in April, along with Aberystwyth Town, Airbus UK and Bangor City.
It should be noted that Port Talbot Town were very unfortunate to not get Licensed after a very strong appeal, the club have made great progress over the past year and should be in a very good position gain a Licence next season.
