News - Wales Defeated In Northern Ireland Milk Cup
Posted: 1 August 2008
The Wales Under 19 side lost their play-off match with Israel 2-0 in Ballymena this morning (Friday).
The match was a positional play-off game for this year's Northern Ireland Milk Cup Tournament. The game was played at the Ballymena Showgrounds and kick off was delayed after the late arrival of the match officials.
Neither side had shone on this year's tournament and there was little to separate the sides on paper. However, Israel scored an early goal after just six minutes and Wales were always trying to play catch-up.
Not long before half time, an own goal by Wales player Aston Taylor (39 minutes) gave the Israelis a 2-0 lead and the game was beyond Wales, who return home with three defeats from the week's matches.
