News - Boyle Handed Semi Pro Job

Posted: 22 January 2009

Former Wales International defender Terry Boyle, has been handed the post of Wales Semi Professional Team Manager.

Boyle played at all levels for Wales in his illustrious playing career and he emphasised the importance of this level of National team by saying;

"It's essential identifying Welsh youngsters who are currently outside the Pro game for whatever reason, especially at Under 23 level, who are still good enough to get back into the Pro game."

The former Wales International became involved in the Semi Pro set-up as Assistant Manager to Tony Pennock in January 2007. He was Pennock's Number Two in the Four Nations in Inverness in 2007 and in North Wales in 2008 and they also worked together for the Semi Pro Under 23 sides in their International Challenge Trophy (ICT) matches away in Italy and England.

Pennock then stood down from his role to take up a Full-Time position as Head of Swansea City's Youth Academy and Boyle was placed in Temporary Charge for the final ICT match last November against Finland in Llanelli. The Young Dragons played very well against a side, which has qualified for the UEFA Under 21 Finals and were unlucky to lose 1-0.

Boyle emphasised this by stating, "Results didn't justify the performance the boys put in during the last Tournament.

"We were narrowly beaten by a very strong England side and performed excellently in the Second Half against Italy and also against the Finns.

"The Tournament was a new experience for a number of players and they all really benefited and improved as players. We had some drop-outs during the Competition, but when one door closed, it opened another for a new player, and those that came in also equipped themselves very well."

Boyle has strong links with the Welsh Premier League having played 80 (+2) times in the League for Inter Cardiff, Ebbw Vale, Barry Town, Carmarthen Town and Bangor City. He also Managed both Barry Town and Bangor City and was Assistant at Caernarfon Town and Welshpool.
