News - Glan Conwy and Clydach Wasps reach Trophy Final

Posted: 13 March 2010

Glan Conwy FC 2-0 CPD Llanberis

Llanberis were left to rue a number of missed chances as they were beaten by fellow Welsh Alliance side Glan Conwy 2-0 in the FAW Trophy Semi Final in Bangor this afternoon.

Veteran Ashley Smith was the hero for Glan Conwy with a brace. He scored the opener on 67 minutes when he broke the offside trap and finished clinically. In the final three minutes, the result was confirmed when Smith scored from the spot after a push in the box.

Llanberis' Mark Hughes was sent off by referee Mark Gray for serious foul play a minute later.

Glan Conwy have now reached the final in April, just as they did in 2007, when they finished runners-up.

Venture Community 1-4 Clydach Wasps

Gwent outfit Clydach Wasps have ended Venture Community's FAW Trophy dream, with a 4-1 win at Rhayader.

Club captain Nick Francis was the hero on his return to his former club Rhayader with a hat-trick and Colin Evans scored the other for Phil Pritchard's side.

The consolation for the Community was scored by attacking midfielder Enion Edwards.

The final will be played on Saturday 17th April 2010 at a neutral venue, to be confirmed.
