Lewis Hamilton won at Silverstone, with controversy
In the midst of a huge controversy, Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes returned. The seven-time world champion became strong at home by winning the Grand Prix of Great Britain, the 10th date of the Formula One World Championship. When it came to pass the line, it must be said that Hamilton won at the Silverstone circuit, which He cut 25 points from the leader, the Dutch Max Verstappen, and the podium was completed with the Monegasque Charles Leclerc, who had an excellent career with his Ferrari, and the Finnish Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes).
But Hamilton won amid controversy and crossfire. Is that after an excellent exit from the Briton, Verstappen (Red Bull) was able to stay in front. But when they had barely run moments of the first lap, the Dutchman defended the outside of the corner and Hamilton touched him on the inside. The Red Bull left the track and crashed into the retaining wall, without physical consequences for Verstappen, who emerged unharmed and by his own means from a wrecked racing car which, on the other hand, shows the progress of the category in terms of the safety of the pilots.
Hamilton was given 10 seconds for the incident but managed to claim the victory and extend his record for wins at Silverstone to eight with his fourth win of the year.
Verstappen and his team were on fire. From the hospital to which he was transferred, the Dutchman did not hesitate to post through Twitter that “seeing the celebrations in the hospital is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike behaviour, but we will continue forward.” After the tenth round of the year, Verstappen leads the championship with 185 points, eight more than Hamilton, which caused the delirium of the 140,000 spectators who packed Silverstone when he overtook Leclerc with two of the 52 laps remaining in the legendary English track.
The next race, the Hungarian Grand Prix, will be held on August 1 at the Hungaroring, the circuit on the outskirts of Budapest.
