A Northern Irish professional soccer player and manager, Coleraine coach planned the Miracle of Maribor in the mid of august. Now, he is still struggling to make his dream come true by bringing the Europa League against AC Milan.

Bannsiders to Face Beatable Opposition

The draw for the second qualifying match began on August 31 at the House of European Football in Switzerland. Now, the Coleraine F.C also known as Bannsiders will have a great opportunity to face their strongest opponents. They are now ready for the draw’s Main Path Group 3 and face any one of the three professional clubs namely Motherwell, The New Saints and Welsh club.

The players from Wales have already made their place at top levels in Europe in the past ten seasons. However, this year they are likely to face the strongest competitors from Gibraltar, Kosovo and Faros.

They have also won many matches against some of the Irish clubs. They defeated Prague-based soccer club, Bohemians by 4-1 in 2010 and another Irish based soccer club, Cliftonville by 2-1 in 2019. Last week, they secured their place at the top in Europe by defeating Slovakia’s MSK Zilina by 3-1.

The Bannsiders are now feeling optimistic to compete against Motherwell. Last Thursday, a soccer club that plays in the NIFL Premiership, Glentoran had a tough fight with Steelmen before losing the professional soccer player, Seanen Clucas.

It also seems like leagues at Copenhagen would be the toughest among the three potential options. The players from Northern Germany have already reached their first Europa League quarter-final in just a few weeks after losing a game at Manchester United. However, after that, they had won against Celtic by 4-2 in the round of 32.

Other Competitors In Line

A semi-professional soccer club based in Belfast, Linfield played the Champions League and successfully defeated Legia Warsaw a few weeks ago. Now, the club has been selected to play the match in Champions Path, Group 1 for the draw. This club also has the opportunity to make progress in this competition.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Blues will face Andorran champions Inter Escaldes, Maltese champions Floriana and may be paired with Finnish champions known as Kuopion Palloseura. Kuopion Palloseura has a great record and recently defeated Maccabi Netanya (Israel), Vitebsk (Belarus) and Llanelli (Wales) in the recent seasons.

However, they were defeated by Molde FK (5-0) in the Champions League first Qualifying Round. Due to this defeat, they could not make up for the Europa League draw.

An Andorran soccer club, Inter Escaldes has only played a solitary European match and got defeated by Kosovans. Linfield is the top favourite among soccer fans and will be paired in this season’s league. Moreover, the Maltese have also won a round of European soccer once against Ekranas in 1993. The potential opponents who will be competing against Linfield are known to give a tough fight in the Champions League.

In the last season, another soccer club based in Bratislava, Slovan Bratislava defeated the finalist and made its place at the final group stages of the Europa League. It now intends to defeat Linfield. This could make things more interesting for Blues.

Moreover, the chances of Linfield drawing Dundalk may tend to link painful match memories of the 1979 encounter among the clubs at Oriel Park. It had enabled Irish soccer clubs to take a cross-community initiative called Dunfield Youth Project to again build good relations among the two clubs.

Now, as Coleraine won’t be getting to pair against AC Milan, but after the Miracle of Maribor, they may gain the potential to progress.
