Man City Wins with a 5-0 Score Against Newcastle; David Silva Shines Out
David Silva is 34 years old and will leave the football camp after 10 successful years of playing for Man City. Throughout this Premier League, David’s goal has contributed towards making their home-win the biggest one since the tournament restarted. His curling free-kick caught the Newcastle’s keeper off guard and scored in the top corner.
Manchester City’s forward players- Riyad Mahrez & Gabriel Jesus scored two goals in the first 21 minutes of the match. And City was lucky enough to be rewarded with an own goal by Federico Fernández, Newcastle’s Defender, in the 58th minute. The last goal was scored by Sterling for Mac City in the injury time.
Their latest win has got them 9 points ahead and has saved their 2nd place on the points table. They are at 69 points on the table with 5 more games to play. The city will be going next against Brighton, Bournemouth, Arsenal, Watford, and Norwich City.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the stands had to be left empty and only club officials and members were allowed to enter the stadium. However, the fans were denied a chance to give Silva a grand farewell in his last season. Especially with his active and inspiring play during the matches.
How has David Silva been the ‘star’ of this match?
Silva has improved a lot over the years; he scored goals and wins for Man City throughout this time. He knows how to tackle the intensity of important games and matches. But in off-center games, like the one with New Castle, this Spanish player was able to stand out easily.
He might have scored only one goal through a free kick in this match; although in the 10th minute of the game, he set Gabriel Jesus up with a low cross from left. This gave the Brazilian player his chance to score his second goal after he had scored playing against Real Madrid on 26th February for the Champions League.
This might give the striker’s confidence a boost since he had missed a few shots that would have been potential scores. This happened while Jesus was playing on the field as a substitute for Sergio Aguero, who was recovering from injury.
Following a similar position, Riyad Mahrez got a goal in the 21st minute for the team. He scored when Kevin De Bruyne gave him a clean cut back, this got the team a lead of 2 to 0. However, City did miss quite a few shots on target, wasting their opportunities in the first half. Most of the time, these were the result of mistakes of the Man City Midfielder, Phil Foden.
Manchester City was rewarded with its third goal after Gabriel’s remarkable run underwent a rough challenge by Matt Ritchie, Newcastle’s Midfielder. The ball flipped towards Fernández, another Newcastle player, and went for the goalpost’s corner. This ‘own goal’ got City 3 goals against Newcastle’s nil.
After taking his free-kick and scoring, Silva put his efforts into getting the team it’s final goal during the extra time. Sterling gave a clean finish by sweeping the ball into the corner, with Silva’s assist.
This has helped Man City in keeping up its record of 4 home wins and has also kept all the rival teams at zero goals during these matches.
