John Gosden assumes that Santiago can be a huge barrier for Stradivarius to beat in his attempt for a fourth Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup.

The Stradivarius is owned by Bjorn Nielsen who has controlled the staying division from the last few years. It has also achieved the prominent Double Trigger’s record of 3 victories in this two-mile Group One along with a short verdict about regular foe Dee Ex Bee during last year.

The two-mile Goodwood victory, which became a part of the British Champions Series and QIPCO, was first allowed to run in the 19th century. Stradivarius now has the chance to increase the bar higher just three days after his stablemate, Enable to be the first horse to get the three editions of Elizabeth QIPCO and King George VI Stakes at Ascot.

The Biggest Obstacle for Stradivarius

According to Clarehaven handler, John Gosden has got the biggest obstacle in his career. If it was allowed to run on August 1, then he would have offered Santiago 13lb. However, as it is allowed to run at the end of July, he would be providing 15lb to a horse that succeeds in the Queen’s Vase and won an Irish Derby. It is the biggest challenge for Stradivarius to provide 15lb for two miles.

He also believes that Santiago seems to be super quick on his feet across Ascot and he may efficiently handle the track. When Stradivarius won the first victory in the Goodwood Cup, they received 13lb from Big Orange but now they have to provide 15lb. This 2lb can make a big difference for 2 miles if it is a tough competition.

The Coronation Cup at Newmarket

Prior to the latest Gold Cup run, Stradivarius completed a reputable third position for succeeding at Anthony Van Dyck and Coral-Eclipse hero Ghaiyyath at Newmarket in the Coronation Cup. As the overall chestnut appeared to monitor the testing conditions at Ascot, Gosden is seeking to get him back on the race track that is a part of the QIPCO Series.

He further stated that he was under pressure to run him in the Coronation Cup at Newmarket. Moreover, it was found that Ghaiyyath broke the record and their position was being marked at the third.

Stradivarius has the capability to be the first in the race but during the competition at Newmarket, they had a tough fight with a horse that already won in Dubai. He caught out fitness rather than his speed. He also concluded that at Ascot, he seemed to handle and run at the sift ground. This was quite surprising because he has small feet along with easy actions and speed.

However, the race did have its regular depth, but he was way quicker than others.

Santiago Won Queen’s Vase At Royal Ascot

Santiago had achieved the victory for the Queen’s Vase during his return to Royal Ascot. His trainer, Aidan O’Brien who is responsible for two-time Goodwood Cup winner now looks forward to making him run in the William Hill St Leger this year.

According to O’Brien¸ the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup would be a perfect race for him. They have always looked at him as a Cup horse for the upcoming season and the Goodwood Cup would be great for him.

He very well handled the race track at Ascot and the Irish Derby at the Curragh. He can be easily trained. It would be a great race for him between St Leger and the Irish Derby. This way the horse will get to learn more.

The trainer of Double Trigger, Mark Johnston will be represented by Nayef Road. He is the one to achieve the victory at the Qatar Goodwood Festival last season before completing St Leger.
