Wawrinka Achieves Three-set Wins at the Prague Challenger

One of the exciting quarter-finals at the Prague Challenger was one of the best treats for tennis fans. For all fans, it was quite interesting to watch a tough competition among top players Sumit Nagal and Stan Wawrinka.

After competing to win three sets in just the initial two matches at the tournament of Prague Challenger, Wawrinka made it happen three times in a row on Thursday. He successfully defeated professional Indian player, Sumit Nagal by winning 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 and got its place confirmed in the semi-finals.

An Easy Three Set Win for Wawrinka

After failing in the first set, Stan successively won 11 matches in a row to secure its place in the second set. He then directly made his position by scoring 5-0 in the third. Sumit got the last chance to close the gap to 5-1 but before that Stan quickly served it out.

Outside the stadium, Stan confesses that it was a tough kick-off. He is very happy to win another game and achieve three sets again. Now, he has begun to play much better. During the first set, he lost the opportunity as the opponent scored more balls but swiftly he took the game under his control.

According to him, he is still very far from receiving the topmost level. However, with the practice, he will keep improving bit by bit.

Stan who ranks at 17 has played against 178-ranked Russian Roman player, Safiullin in his first game of the week. In his first match, he won 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and again defeated a German Oscar, Otte who ranks at 217 in the second game by 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

The top-seeded player will now be seen playing in the semi-finals where he will be competing against one of the professional Czech tennis players known as Michael Vrbensky. This 20-year-old Czech player will be competing against the best 100 players for the first time in his tennis career.

When Stan was at his age, he only used to play against younger players of his age so he is now used to it. According to Stan, it’s great to watch younger tennis players and he is very excited to play against them for the first time.

Stan has observed how Vrbensky plays matches. He has seen him playing against Elias Ymer and he performs really well. He added that Vrbensky tries to be aggressive while playing matches and that is a good thing, especially in a tough match.

Other Seeded Players to Face Stan Wawrinka at Prague Challenger

The other semi-finalist in Prague competing against Stan Wawrinka will be third-seeded French tennis player, Pierre- Hugues Herbert and Russian professional player, Aslan Karatsev. Other professionals include second ceded Czech tennis player, Jiri Vesely, seventh-seeded Henri Laaksonen and Ernests Gulbis. This all will be seen competing under one roof.

Stan Wawrinka is playing Prague Challenger for the first time in ten years. He last time played in 2010 at such a high level. During 2010, he received his most current Challenger title in Lugano. It was his sixth title. Now, he will be playing Successive Challengers on clay in Prague from the next two week.

Alongside, the other challenger events are set to kick off this week in Todi, Italy. Another renowned Italian tennis player, Marco Cecchinato will be most likely seen playing in the semi-finals. He won his quarter-finals match against Argentina’s tennis player, Juan Pablo Ficovich this Thursday.

A French open semi finalist and second-seeded Cecchinato along with a team of former top 20 players will play against seventh-seeded Yannick Hanfmann.

Another semi-final pits including Facundo Bagnis will face Spanish player, Bernabe Zapata Miralles.
